Every journey starts with a first step. The first step of the Grassroots Hero Foundation was taken with Carl. Carl kindly and unselfishly took time away from his family vacation to provide legal advice and answer upteen questions about establishing the Grassroots Hero Foundation as a non-profit organization. First steps are important - without them nothing more is achieved.

There was no good reason for Andriko to respond to a letter from a complete stranger about a Gofundme account for people in need in Ukraine. There were so many other organizations he might have chosen. But Andriko did respond, with tremendous trust, encouragement and support. This trust and support is not only deeply appreciated but helped lay the groundwork for our work in Ukraine.

Anatasiia is a professional photographer from Ukraine who now makes her home in San Francisco. She spent a week of her vacation in Ukraine - a week away from her family - taking photos for the Grassroots Hero Foundation.
